Why ISP proxies are in such demand

ISP proxies, also called static residential proxies, have become one of the most popular proxy products for a simple reason: they combine the trust of a residential IP with the speed and stability of a datacenter server. You rent a fixed IP that websites see as belonging to a consumer ISP, and it never goes offline because someone's phone went to sleep.

That makes them the default sneaker proxies, a top choice for social media and marketplace account management, and an excellent option for long-running browser automation. But ISP proxy quality varies a lot, and buying the wrong batch can mean a subnet that's already banned on the sites you need.

What separates the best ISP proxies from the rest

ASN quality

Which ISP are the IPs actually registered to? Big consumer ISPs (Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, Charter/Spectrum, Cox in the US; BT, Sky, Virgin Media in the UK) are best. Obscure "ISPs" that are really small business providers or hosting-adjacent networks may be classified as non-residential by IP intelligence services, which defeats the purpose. Check the ASN of a sample IP with an IP lookup.

Subnet spread

ISP proxies often come from a handful of subnets. If you're buying 50 IPs, ask how many distinct /24s they'll span. More spread means less risk that one ban takes out your whole batch.

Exclusivity

Are the IPs dedicated to you, or sold to several customers? For sneakers and accounts, shared ISP IPs can be burned before you use them.

Freshness and tested sites

Sneaker-focused sellers often say which sites a batch has been tested on. For accounts, a fresh batch with no history is ideal.

Locations

ISP proxies are usually available in a limited set of locations, often US East (Virginia/Ashburn, New York), US Central and West, London and a few EU cities. Match them to your targets.

Terms and replacements

Daily, weekly and monthly terms; replacement policy for dead or banned IPs; whether bandwidth is unlimited.

Best ISP proxies by use case

  • Sneakers: dedicated ISP proxies, tested on your target sites, in the right region, on daily or weekly terms around releases. See ISP proxies for sneakers.
  • Social media management: dedicated ISP IPs, one per account, in the account's home country. See social media management proxies.
  • Marketplace seller accounts: dedicated, long-term ISP IPs with a stable location.
  • Browser automation with logins: ISP proxies avoid the session drops of residential. See Puppeteer proxies.

Pricing

At the time of writing, ISP proxies typically cost roughly $1.50 to $4 per IP per month at small volumes, falling at volume. Daily sneaker packages are priced per IP per day. "Premium" subnets with good track records on popular sneaker sites cost more around big releases. See proxy pricing guide.

Proxy tip: One low-risk way to follow this advice is to start with a provider whose traffic doesn't expire. Geonode bills residential proxies per GB with no expiry on purchased bandwidth, so you can test properly before buying volume. We cover its plans in Geonode ISP proxies.

How to test ISP proxies

  1. Look up a sample of IPs: confirm the ASN is a consumer ISP and the location is right.
  2. Count distinct /24 subnets in your batch.
  3. Check reputation on a few blocklist and IP-score services. See IP reputation and proxies.
  4. Test speed from your server or bot location. See proxy speed test.
  5. Test against your actual target sites before relying on them.

ISP proxies and long-term account use

For accounts, the value of an ISP proxy grows over time as the account builds a consistent history on that IP. That means:

  • Choose stable providers likely to be around for years.
  • Renew before expiry.
  • If a provider is retiring a range, migrate accounts gradually and expect verification prompts.

See social media management proxies.

Planning an ISP allocation

Rather than buying one block in one city, plan the batch around what you'll do with it:

NeedAllocation idea
US retail and sneakersMostly East Coast (Ashburn, New York), with a smaller share in Chicago or Dallas
US accounts with national audiencesSpread across East, Central and West to match where account owners are
UK and EU accountsLondon for UK accounts; Frankfurt or Amsterdam for EU ones
Price checks in several regionsA few IPs in each region you report on

Within each location, ask for IPs from more than one subnet. If one /24 gets flagged on a target, the rest of the batch keeps working. Some sellers let you choose; others will split a batch on request.

Track results per location and per subnet during the first month, then shift next month's order towards whatever performs. Dropping a weak subnet and adding a second city is usually cheaper than buying a bigger batch of the same thing.

For location-specific advice, see US proxies and UK proxies. Sneaker buyers should also read ISP proxies for sneakers, and anyone comparing sellers can use ISP proxy providers compared.

FAQ

What's the difference between ISP and residential proxies?

ISP proxies are static, server-hosted IPs registered to ISPs; residential proxies are rotating IPs from real home devices. See ISP vs residential proxies.

Are ISP proxies good for scraping?

For moderate volumes, especially with browsers and logins, yes. For huge request volumes needing IP diversity, rotating residential is better.

How long do ISP proxies last?

As long as you keep paying, unless the IP is banned on your target or the provider replaces it.

Are ISP proxies detectable?

Advanced systems can sometimes spot server-like behaviour, but ISP proxies still perform very well on most sites.
