Ever wanted to know how Trained-Monkey-Teams work?
Team
Of Monkeys . com
The following
will attempt to explain how Trained-Monkey-Teams work:
:
Monkey teams operate in several permutations: Helper monkeys (HM),
General PurposeMonkeys (GPM), and Dual Purpose Monkeys (DPM). Once
assigned the corresponding tasks, monkeys become Special-Purpose, also
referred to as Specific Purpose in some cultures (for GPM).
Multi-Purpose (for DPM) and Other-Purpose (for advanced GPM) MORE ON
THIS LATER. This section will explain the Abilities of each type of
monkey and the functions of a monkey team assembly & operation.
Monkeys are similar to humans in that they are able to manipulate the
world around them by using their finger-like hands and get around using
there feet. The tasks they are able to handle are a far smaller portion
of any responsibility than a human can handle, however, the monkeys
overcome this by working in well organized monkey teams. In well
organized teams, as "...little as 27 monkeys can match the ability of
one human beings responsibility" (Nanwood 2009 pp66-8).
Helper monkeys (HM) are the simplest monkeys to understand. All monkeys
are born as helper monkeys and then continue as such till they qualify
to be general-purpose monkey, usually 2-5 years of age. Helper monkeys
are 10-13 inches tall, can lift their weight and are aware of their
immediate surroundings. They show signs that they see and understand
that the larger monkeys communicate with each other, and once HM
observe another monkey, they can mimic what that monkey is doing. This
was termed in the late 20th century as "monkey see, monkey do" (et al
pp55). To help you understand this in practicality please read the
following excerpt:
"The older more mature monkey was explaining to the GPM to move the
fire wood into the house. Once the monkey explained it to the others,
they stared moving the wood, each monkey doing his or her little part.
One would lift each log and throw it to the line of monkeys forming
bellow, then each monkey would carry his log into the house holding it
proudly above his head. The monkeys at first looked back and forth
confused by all the movement of the older monkeys. Some HM started
following the log-carrying monkeys around, eventually when they got to
the part of the line that received a log the helper monkey would carry
his own log and unload it just like the Older ones. More and more
Helper monkeys joined until there was what seemed like 5 times as many
helpers as there where the older monkeys. Another team started forming
inside a house to pile and catalogue the wooden logs." (Dock Hand,
Lower Cambodia 2007 Et al PP99-101).
Helper monkeys can learn in a few minutes how to copy the occurring
task of a nearby Special purpose monkeys - a general purpose monkey
that has been assigned a task. Their learning ability is increased by
the removal of a derogatory enzyme found in natural bananas combined
with an increase of the amino acids L-taurine, l-tyrosine and
Potassium. By being fed a specially manufactured food by the Banana
Flavored Food Conglomerate. As you can see in this chart, research has
proven that eating the enzyme found in natural bananas can seriously
affect the learning abilities of a monkey. The amino acid supplement is
in order to compensate for basic nutrition that would be ingested by
eating bananas. INSERT CHART showing performance of HM Group that ate
BFF with amino acid booster, HM Group that ate regular Bananas, and a
control group fed carrots and lettuce.
Helper Monkeys (HM) usually interact with general purpose monkeys and
in unusual circumstances even with Dual-purpose monkeys. Unlike HM,
General Purpose Monkeys (GPM) interact with all other monkeys on a
regular basis. The GPM is sometimes nicknamed by non-scientific users
as Middle-Monkeys. GPMs can be assigned one concurrent-responsibility
(Purpose). A responsibility includes three connected tasks commonly
broken down to one work task, one order receiving task, and one order
transmitting task. Except for HMs all monkeys are able to transmit and
receive task input to all other monkeys in their operating area. Once a
GPM is given a responsibility, they become a special or specific
purpose monkeys, usually followed by some form of description of the
task. (i.e. SPM Sonar Monitoring) Dual-Purpose-Monkeys are very very
experienced GPM monkeys. If a monkey can qualify for DPM status, they
are able to then handle 2 concurrent responsibilities (purposes). (each
with a 3 task assignments)There are rare instances when a monkey will
be able to achieve Other-Purpose-Monkey status (OPM) One way to define
an OPM is a monkey that is able to handle 2 concurrent
responsibilities, with each responsibility containing within it 2
concurrent-responsibilities. OPM are sometimes called Multi-Purpose
Monkeys (MPM) and are VERY rare.
The next section will focus on how all monkeys work together to handle
a given set of responsibilities and how all the responsibilities are
compiled along a range of competent monkeys to create a Team of
Monkeys.
Human interaction is usually simpler with a DPM, but any monkey can be
explained The Goal. Once The Goal
has been communicated to the monkey using the
Limb-Position-Language-Commands (LPLC - more on this later), the monkey
will automatically communicate The Goal to the nearest monkey that will
be able to forward The Goal so that it is forwarded to one level higher
than the minimum that can handle The Goal and The Team is then
assembled to complete The Goal, and the goal is then completed as soon
as possible. (Baucher 2007 990-1003).
The core ability that allows monkeys to complete their Goals is their
capability to work with each other in well organized teams. Monkey
Teams can work with other Monkey Teams and sub monkey teams can exist
within other monkey teams or other sub-monkey teams that also contain
sub-monkey teams. Using the tools created by engineers known as
